Amir is finally beginning to figure himself out. He has a
successful life in the writing business and is now married to Soraya, the girl
of his dreams. This section of the book
shocked me a couple of times, but the most heartbreaking part was learning of
Hassan’s rough life. Even though he did marry, his life consisted of a
stillborn first child and just years after his son is born, he and his wife are
killed by the Taliban. This was completely unexpected and I never would have
guessed that Hassan was dead. After
everything that he went through as a child and then he is slaughtered in front
of the entire neighborhood, it just is not right.
When Sohrab is introduced in to the story, I did not really know
what to expect. I want Amir to try to save him, but is it really the best
choice? He is having a rough spot in his life right now and everything and
everyone around him seems to be getting injured or killed in some way.
Hopefully he makes a decision that truly benefits himself and eventually
returns to America with his family, safe and sound.
I kinda don't agree with you on this Brandon. Amir has always looked out for himself and done what's best for him and he is finally changing into a better person. He put Hassan through so much as a kid, and now he knows he is his half-brother so he should feel even worse about what he did. He owes Hassan and should definitely take care of Sohrab. Amir needs to stop thinking about himself first. He could either help a child, and possibly save his life, or worry about how much money he makes on his next book and let a child suffer without parents.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question: I do believe it is in Amir's best interest to save Sohrab. In fact, it is the best opportunity Amir has been presented with in his lifetime. In saving Sohrab, Amir will be truly sacrificing all he has in a way that will redeem him from his horrible childhood mistake as he stood and watched Hassan's torturing. This time, he must stop the torture of another life in order to become at peace with himself and pay his dues to Hassan. It is what Hassan would have wanted for his only son. And to be honest, Amir owes Hassan anything he darn well pleases for what Amir did to him. It is only fair.
